Montclair Librarians to Lead New Jersey Library Association

Children’s Librarian will serve as President in 2022

MONTCLAIR, NJ (March 19, 2021) — Two Montclair Public Library employees have been elected to the Executive Board of the New Jersey Library Association: Jessica Trujillo, Head of Youth and Teen Services, as Vice President/President Elect and Selwa Shamy, Assistant Director, as Secretary.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to help NJLA to move its strategic goals forward—particularly in the areas of Equity & Inclusion and organizational structure,” said Jessica Trujillo, NJLA President-Elect. “Our profession, like many others, is in a period of growth and change and it is a very exciting time to be in a position where I can positively impact my professional community.”

“I have been involved with NJLA for 15 years and continue to learn from my colleagues and experiences throughout the state,” said Selwa Shamy, NJLA Secretary. “I am excited to have the opportunity to apply NJLA’s core values to the work we do on behalf of all library workers.”

Trujillo was elected from 3 candidates and will begin her term as President in 2022 after serving as Vice President for a year starting in June. Shamy, appointed Secretary in 2020, will continue to serve as Secretary through June 2022.

“As a colleague I am proud of Jessica and Selwa’s dedication to our profession and their passion for libraries,” said Peter Coyl, Library Director. “I know they will serve librarians in our state well.”
