How do I apply for a library card?

Residents interested in obtaining a library card can learn more by going to our library card sign up section.

How can I donate books or other materials to the Library?

The Library cannot accommodate donations due to storage limitations. There is a donation bin for Better World Books that is emptied regularly, located on the side of the Main Library that can be accessed from the driveway between the Library and United Way building. If the bin is full, please do not leave donations on the ground; they will unfortunately be thrown away.

How can I suggest a title to be added to the Library's collection?

If you do not see a title in our hoopla, Libby/OverDrive, or catalog of physical materials, suggest one by filling out this form. If we are able to make the purchase the title will be put on hold for you.

How do I donate money to the library?

The Library provides options for online money donations. In-person donations may also be made using marked envelopes provided by the Library.

How much are library fines?

Late fines have been eliminated on most materials owned by Montclair Public Library. See a complete list of fines and fees.

What happens if I lose library materials?

Each patron is responsible for the replacement cost of a lost or damaged materials. Refer to the Lost or Damaged/Missing Pieces Policy. When the exact price of a lost or damaged item is unknown, refer to the default replacement costs found in the Fines and Fees Policy.

There is a book on my card that I know I returned. What do I do?

Please contact the Borrower Services Department at 973-744-0500, ext. 2232 and inform a staff person. Staff will follow procedures to see whether the item was not properly checked in.

Can I attend programs if I don't live in Montclair?

Yes, programs are open to everyone.

How do I register for an Adult School class?

The fastest way to register is by completing the transaction yourself through the Adult School website. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover Card.

Can I withdraw from an Adult School class once I've registered?

In order to cancel a class and receive a refund of tuition and any pre-paid materials fees, we require 7 calendar days notice for classes and 14 calendar days notice for trips. Students will receive a refund less an administrative fee of $10. Refunds are made using the original method of payment. There are no refunds for classes rescheduled due to weather related events.

I have a program I think the Library would be interested in. How do I make a suggestion?

Great! If you would like to suggest a program for children or teens, fill out this form. For an adult audience, you can suggest an Adult School class or lecture or a general adult program.

I think I left something at the library. What do I do?

Please call the Library immediately at 973-744-0500 and let the staff know where the item was left. Materials left at the Library, if found, are kept for up to three months.

How can I volunteer at the library?
