Volunteer with Montclair Library Friends

The library can always use a friend! If you are interested in volunteer opportunities with the chance to occasionally hang out with other volunteer friends once in a while, come join us. There are a number of ways to help, for people with a range of interests and availability. Opportunities include:

• Shelving books
• Staffing the Library’s Welcome Desk
• Ushering at Open Book/Open Mind events
• Holding programs for community members
• Being a “ Library Ambassador” by sharing testimonials on social media, helping write letters to the local newspaper, and/or speaking at Town Council meetings

Adults (ages 18+) may be required to complete a background check to volunteer in Youth Services.

The Teen Volunteer Application is closed.

If you have questions about volunteering, feel free to email us at youthservices@montclairlibrary.org and we’ll get back to you. Parents & Guardians: Please do not reach out on behalf of your teens. They will be responsible for managing their own schedules and honoring their volunteer obligations, and that starts with sending their own emails.

• In order to volunteer at the Library, you must be a 7th through 12th grade student, and you must live or attend school in Montclair. You must inform the Youth Services Department if your availability changes or if you are no longer able to volunteer at the Library.
• If you need additional hours, here is a list of other volunteer opportunities in and around Montclair.
• The Library also has volunteer opportunities once a month from 4–6 p.m. that are open to all teens in the Montclair area. Please check the Library Calendar to see the schedule.
• Teens are responsible for providing paperwork for volunteer service verification. Library Staff is available to fill out and sign forms, but we do not provide the forms themselves. If you have questions, reach out to your school and service organization for assistance.

The Teen Advisory Board is currently full and is no  longer accepting applications.

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group of teens who participate in and influence the functioning of the Library, with a focus on teen programming and teen Library materials. TAB is a forum to have your opinions and suggestions heard, and it is an opportunity to earn additional volunteer hours.

TAB meets the first Wednesday of every month from September to May, and meeting attendance is mandatory.
