Description

Join us at the Montclair Public Library for an afternoon that will change the way you
think about drawing. Working from fresh flowers, fruit, and carefully curated objects,
participants will learn the timeless techniques artists use to create realistic tonal
drawings with charcoal. This workshop regularly leaves participants surprised by what
they are capable of creating in just one session. More than a drawing class, it's an introduction to the art of looking—a skill that can be
practiced and enjoyed for years to come. If you're not easily impressed by your artistic
abilities, prepare to surprise yourself. All skills levels and self-proclaimed "non-artists"
are welcome. A little charcoal dust is part of the experience, so wearing an old shirt is recommended.

Materials Fee

There is a $5 materials fee included in the tuiton.

Facilitators

Jenny Santa Maria is a Teaching Artist and Art Coach based in Monmouth County, NJ. With a background in Art Education and Special Education, she brings over a decade of experience designing inclusive and accessible workshops that foster creative confidence. Jenny leads programs across libraries, senior centers, museums, and retreats throughout the Northeast, specializing in folk art traditions.
