MONTCLAIR, NJ (May 13, 2026) — In a landmark effort to empower renters and foster a greater understanding of tenants rights, the Montclair Public Library is proud to announce the launch of “New Jersey Keys to Tenancy.” Funded by generous grants from The New Jersey State Bar Foundation and Partners For Health Foundation, this expansive multimedia toolkit is designed to serve as an easy to navigate resource hub for renters across the state of New Jersey.
To access this online multimedia toolkit, New Jersey residents can visit www.montclairlibrary.org/njkeys for information and organized online resources to help them better understand their rights, find affordable housing, and more. The centerpiece of the website will be an all-new animated explainer video launching on May 31 which breaks down the essentials of New Jersey tenants’ rights in an accessible format, created by Montclair Public Library in collaboration with New Jersey-based artist Alicia Robinson.
“We are absolutely thrilled to bring New Jersey Keys to Tenancy to not only the Montclair community, but to people across the Garden State,” said Library Director Radwa Ali. “By creating an online resource toolkit with an easy-to-understand video, we are ensuring that no matter where in New Jersey you rent, the ‘keys’ to understanding your rights and responsibilities are right at your fingertips. It is a proud moment for the Montclair Public Library to lead the way in such a modern, accessible, community-based initiative that will benefit residents all over New Jersey.”
The project will fully launch to the public with a family friendly kick-off event on May 31 from 2–4:30 p.m. at Montclair Public Library’s main branch located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue. This program will consist of a presentation on tenant rights from Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, the premiere of the library’s Tenant Rights animated explainer video, a panel and Q&A session with local professionals, and a mixer with food and refreshments. Inviting guests to “Know Your Rights and Know Your Neighbors” this event will provide the community with opportunities to support their neighbors through local connection and shared resources. The first 50 people to register for the event will receive a free copy of the book “Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next)” by Dean Spade.
